Around Britain 2000
This was a complete circumnavigation of the U.K. mainland in aid of the RNLI
(Royal National Lifeboat Institute). I did the top half (i.e. mostly Scotland),
although I did attend the start at Whitby harbour as well, as you can see below.
The run had it's own website, updated with pictures and reports daily so anyone
on the net could follow our progress.
The start sign being erected by Gary and what looks like (from this angle)
Rod. Those curvy things in the background are the whalebones, a famous landmark
in Whitby. Yes, they're real whalebones.
A shot showing Gary's grossly over-decorated car :-) Simon Dewey looks on in
disbelief.
I came around the side of a mountain somewhere in Scotland and saw
this... so I stopped.
Eilean Donan castle, birthplace of a thousand moody ads.
This was my B&B at Ardelve. Nice having your own bay, eh ?
My car at John O'Groats. Think how much cooler this shot would have been if
I'd remembered to wind the windows down...
The sea at North Berwick. Immediately behind me when I took this picture was
the putting course. Kinda destroys the illusion when you know that, doesn't it ?
